NEGAN

K9 Negan has been retired since July 2023 and he has enjoyed being an inside dog. His friends include a Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mountain Dog mix, a German Shorthair, a Chihuahua and a cat. Negan and the Chihuahua are best friends out of the whole crew. He finds rocks in the backyard to play fetch with and shoes inside the house to play fetch with as well. Everything is a toy – goes with the territory of having a dog with high prey drive. In February, Negan went with his family to Estes Park for the weekend. He enjoyed the snow and hiking around the area. He tracked some deer and when he found them, he just kind of cocked his head and stared at them like they were weird looking dogs. At the end of January, Negan was diagnosed with terminal cancer. We have been working close with Dr. Vanmetre with Wellington Veterinary Clinic and Colorado State University Teaching Hospital’s Oncology Unit to give him meds and track the growth of the cancer. His handler, Jackie, is devastated after having lost her prior K9, Grendel, in 2019. She hasn’t had the opportunity to have her retired K9’s grow old with her. She absolutely appreciates the Larimer Retired K9 Foundation for all their support during K9 Negan’s cancer treatments. Without them, N9 Negan probably wouldn’t be the active and happy dog he is today. Love your furry friends. You never know when their time on this earth is going to end.
